Letter to the Editor
Planners called event a sing-along, not a vigil

In response to Friday's Tussey Mountain event letter: The Sept. 11 tragedy is one Americans will never forget and does deserve to be treated with respect, hope and gratitude. However, the event was not given proper recognition.

The event at Tussey Mountain was not a "vigil," but an "American Pride Concert and Sing-along," followed by a memorial prayer service.

The honor guard consisted of war veterans who proudly fought for our country's freedom. They displayed the flags with honor and dignity. The community also displayed patriotism by waving their flags and singing along to the State College marching band. And when the "Star-Spangled Banner" was sung, it was not an issue of "words forgotten," but of nervousness.

A lot of time and effort went into planning this community event. Keep in mind that this was a concert and sing-along, with a very meaningful prayer service. Sept. 11 is not only about mourning, but also about American spirit and perseverance.
