Courtesy should come with safety at stadium

At 6:15 Saturday night, I was filing into Beaver Stadium with 10 of my friends, just like thousands of other students, seeking good seats. The lines were moving quickly, and security procedures seemed to be proper -- I had my ID checked -- and courteous. My girlfriend and I were the last two through the gate with my friends, so I turned to find her, but she was gone.

According to her, she had been grabbed violently by the arm and forced out of the gate she just entered. A drunk fan? An errant Nebraska fan? No, just an inexcusably rude security guard.

Once I realized what was going on, my girlfriend was visibly upset and confused. Why her?

Only after questioning the officer and others around us, did we find out she needed to have her handbag checked -- again -- at the table outside.

Knowing several other of my friends were permitted to enter with their belongings without incident, I ask: Was such force necessary? Perhaps a simple "Excuse me, Miss" or "Please" would have sufficed. I understand the need for the security, but are manners too much to ask?
