Letter to the Editor
State Theatre needs local 'grassroots' effort

As a member of the fundraising committee for the State Theatre organization, I was pleased to read the Collegian editorial in support of the project ("Raise the curtain," Sept. 12). I'd like to share some ways that students, faculty and staff can get involved in saving this State College landmark.

Buy a brick as part of our "Pave the Way" campaign. Plan a fundraising event on campus to benefit the State Theatre with your student organization. Volunteer to work our table at the State Theatre during home football games to give out information. Assist with publicity, staffing, and coordination of fundraising events.

I do have one clarification. Ownership of the building has not yet been transferred to our non-profit. The current owner of the building, Sid Friedman, has pledged to sign over the deed when we reach 80 percent of the initial goal. This will demonstrate that the project has local, "grassroots" community support.
