Get the scoop on when to scream, when not to

There are some rules that newcomers, upperclassmen and alumni need to keep in mind to make the football game against Nebraska as intimidating as possible. We have the second largest stadium in the country, but we are the most easily silenced crowd in the Big Ten. So here are two simple guidelines to follow when the red sea overflows its shores and tries to flood State College this weekend:

When our offense is on the field, you should be able to hear a pin drop in the stadium. That means no cheers, no screaming from the cheerleaders -- just no. If you can't hear what Zack Mills is screaming to the team, you're being too loud.

When their offense is on the field, make noise. Make lots of noise. But make it all the time. It does hardly any good to make noise only after they've come out of the huddle; they already know what they're going to do. We need to make them scream before, during and after their huddle. I think we can do that with 106,000 people.

We have a chance to beat Nebraska if we can be just as good at being fans as our team is at playing football. We can show the Big Ten and all of college football that Beaver Stadium is the scariest place to play football in the country.
