After reading the many articles pertaining to the possible invasion of Iraq, I must confess that it is a wonder why the entire world would not be in favor of ousting Saddam Hussein from power.
Putting all the "possibilities" of weapons of mass destruction aside, there is one fact that no one can deny: Saddam Hussein is murdering his own people. What amazes me the most is learning this and still seeing cries against U.S. military action. If you were alive during World War II, would you have cried out against the invasion of Europe and the many islands in the Pacific? Would you have ignored the mass killings of the Jews and minorities by the Nazis in that era? By ignoring Hussein's crimes against humanity, we are guilty of these same crimes.
Some say that we should try a "nonviolent" approach. I, too, would favor this possibility, but it has not worked in the past and the more time we waste, the more people die and the greater a possibility of an attack on the U.S. or our allies. If we as a university truly want peace, Saddam must be ousted. If we the people of the United States truly want peace, Saddam must be ousted. And if we as one world united for the common good truly want peace, Saddam must be ousted. These are the facts set before us, and it is up to us, the United States, the Defenders of Freedom, to see that justice is served.
