Letter to the Editor
CATA should be more aware of route needs

In response to Matthew Budura's letter ("Express bus for Vairo is often cramped, slow," Sept. 10), he is not the only one frustrated with the Centre Area Transportation Authority bus system out on Vairo Boulevard. This is the start of my second year living out here, and I recall last year having to walk from the Pointe to the now-removed bus stop on the far side of Nittany Crossing to guarantee myself a seat on the bus.

As the new NV express bus seems to be one of CATA's least intelligent decisions, I can't help but look at it and think it might be a good idea for the fact that it runs all day long, and not just during the busy hours like last year's express buses. That is really all one can say positive about the NV express.

With the cost of bus passes, increased fares, high prices for parking passes on campus, CATA should be the best option for students.

But with service declining to the most populated areas, overcrowding of the buses, and students' stops being blown by, one must start looking for a better more reliable mode of transportation. The other available modes of transportation are walking, bikes, and a student's car.

But with more and more students driving to campus, this goes against Penn State's desire to turn the campus into a pedestrian campus. CATA and Penn State are going to need to continue to listen to students on what their needs are and continue to reroute buses to meet with the daily demand.
