A 20-year-old Penn State student suffered serious injuries early yesterday morning after she fell from an eighth-floor balcony at Beaver Terrace apartments, 456 E. Beaver Ave, the State College Police Department said.

The Office of Judicial Affairs reported a 35 percent jump in the amount of charges handed out against Penn State students last year.

It had all the markings of a football game. Hundreds of students were gathered on a Saturday morning, chanting "We are ... Penn State." But they didn't wake up to see Joe Paterno -- they woke up to help the community and meet new people.

Last year, the Distinguished Speaker Series included people such as Janet Reno, Ben Stein and Lisa Ling. This year brings a whole new round of well-known personalities to Penn State.

The State Theatre, 128 W. College Ave., received a state grant that will help with the old cinema's restoration and its conversion into a community theater.

The Centre Region Code Enforcement office is continuing the investigation into the collapse of the parking deck at Pepper Mill Condominiums, 710 S. Atherton St., State College Police Department Sgt. John Gardner said yesterday.

If there were any doubts in anyone's mind that the Penn State women's soccer team could not play with the upper echelon teams in the country, it put that to rest yesterday.

The Penn State men's soccer team seems to be making a routine out of bouncing back after tough losses.

If the Penn State women's volleyball team was a car, it would be a Lexus.

Coach Joe Paterno and the Nittany Lion football team will be on hand Friday night for the "Rally in the Valley" pep rally in anticipation of Saturday night's Penn State-Nebraska clash in Beaver Stadium.

Fueled by a strong outing from sophomore Greg Piecynski, the Penn State men's golf team finished a strong third out of 15 teams this weekend at the Badger Invitational in Madison, Wisc.

They say defense wins championships. If that is the case, the Penn State field hockey team is well on its way.

A win is a win, no matter the score.

Four years ago, Beth Afford-Sullivan arrived in Happy Valley to begin her quest to turn the Penn State women's cross country team into a national contender. Since then, the squad has achieved numerous benchmarks, including sophomore Michelle Wale's individual qualification to the NCAA Championships last season.

The golf clubs were silent this past Saturday, but the Blue and White Golf Course was rocking.
