Students have chance to volunteer in area

Freshmen and students new to University Park will have a chance to help out the State College community this weekend. The AT&T Center for Student Leadership is holding its fourth annual Fresh Start program Saturday.

Fresh Start is an orientation event designed to show new students how to become involved in the community while meeting new people. Students will have the opportunity to volunteer at one of more than 50 service sites in the area.

The event will begin at 11 a.m. in 133 White Building with a brief orientation where students will receive their volunteer locations. Volunteers will have the chance to take part in activities such as cleaning parks, helping senior citizens and gardening.

Volunteers will be treated to free pizza when they return from their service sites. An involvement fair will also take place at the end of the day offering students more opportunities to get involved.

All freshmen and transfer students are welcome to take part in the program. Those interested should contact the AT&T Center for Service Leadership at 863-4624 to register.
