Country singers Strait and Messina plan to hit the BJC stage in October

Two country superstars soon perform on the Bryce Jordan Center stage. At 7:30 p.m. Oct. 4, singer/songwriter George Strait is set to give his first appearance in the area since 1996. Joined with him will be Jo Dee Messina.

Strait, who is most known for a honky-tonk and western swing style, has been been entertaining audiences for more than two decades.

CORRECTION: The Daily Collegian incorrectly stated the price of tickets for the George Strait and Jo Dee Messina concert on Oct. 4 at the Bryce Jordan Center.

In 1981, the single "Unwound" of the smash hit album Strait Country went straight to the top of the charts and led Strait to be named Billboard's New Male Artist of the Year. He has won numerous awards from Country Music Television and the Academy of Country Music, including four awards for Album of the Year, six for Male Vocalist of the Year, and three for Entertainer of the Year. Strait's upcoming tour will be in support of his 28th album, The Road Less Traveled, which has spent over 15 weeks on the Billboard album chart.

Messina signed to Curb Records out of Nashville in 1994 and two years later her self-titled debut album, which was produced by Tim McGraw, brought her super-stardom.

Reserved tickets are priced at $59.50 and $49.50. Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. Wristbands will be made available tomorrow from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until 9 a.m.
