Letter to the Editor
Plan time for breakfast; befriend coursemates

It's been over a quarter of a century since I was a student at Penn State. I made lots of mistakes that hurt me later in life and if I could do it over again, here is what I would do:

I'd go to breakfast every morning, which would ensure I was awake for my first class.

I'd try to make more friends with people in my major. My friends were those I lived by in the dorms and they hurt me academically.

I'd join a Christian organization on campus. I thought I was invincible and knew it all. The older I get, the more I know; and the more I know, the more I realize how little I know. Humility is an uncommon virtue in college. Don't be afraid to check out some of the religious organizations on campus.

I'd realize my high school friends were never going to be as close as we once were and I would not go home as often on weekends.
