Agency to help Song's mother

For The Collegian

Housing Transitions, Inc., a local United Way agency, has agreed to provide temporary housing for Bansoon Song, the mother of missing Penn State student Cindy Song, while she continues the search for her daughter.

The university has been providing free housing on campus for Mrs. Song since her daughter's disappearance on Nov. 1, 2001.

Bansoon had been given housing until May 31, but her housing was extended as per her request until July 31. With all campus housing filled in the fall, Housing Transitions agreed to provide an apartment.

Housing Transitions, Inc. provides families and individuals with housing who are homeless or near-homeless.

"This is a wonderful example of a community organization stepping forward to work with the university to help someone in need," Jan Jacobs, vice president for administration, said. "We deeply appreciate the effort that Housing Transitions, Inc. has made to find housing for Mrs. Song. She had wanted to remain in the area until the fall, and this will allow her to do so."

Thus far, the university has provided Bansoon with a computer, modem, printer and Penn State e-mail account to aid her in finding Cindy.

The investigation into the disappearance of Cindy Song is still pending. The case will be featured in September on the television show Unsolved Mysteries in an effort to get information about her whereabouts.

Cindy was last seen wearing a pink shirt with a rabbit design, a white tennis skirt with brown knee-high boots, and a red-hooded jacket.

Anyone with information about her disappearance can contact the Ferguson Township Police at 237-1172 or 1-800-479-0050.

or go to the Penn State Police Services Silent Witness Web site at www.psu.edu/dept/police/ SilentWitness.htm.
