Rep. Lynn Herman, R-Centre and Clearfield, presented a grant check to the Philipsburg Historical Foundation yesterday morning.
The $5,000 grant will be used to hire a preservation conservator to inspect the condition of a Civil War monument and cannons located in Philipsburg. The Civil War monument is currently in poor condition.
"The base is eroding and the inscriptions are eroding (on the statue)," Herman said. "After the curators have evaluated it the next step will be to recondition and preserve these remarkable historical treasures for future generations."
Herman presented the grant to the society's president, Margaret Marshall, and the society's treasurer, John Mencer.
