Today's University Park forecast
stormy The chilly air that arrived in Pennsylvania yesterday will remain today. Despite a high pressure system that is promoting plenty of sunshine in Happy Valley, temperatures will remain below the seasonal average. After a chilly start on Saturday, skies will transition from partly sunny to cloudy during the late afternoon hours as a low pressure system approaches from the west, with showers overspreading the region by nightfall. The showers and thunderstorms will last through Sunday, making the weather just right for studying!

But on this day in 1990, twenty-nine cities from the Carolinas to the Great Lakes Region reported record high temperatures as readings soared into the 80’s and lower 90’s. Record high temperatures included 95 degrees at Baltimore MD and 92 degrees at Allentown PA. The record high of 89 degrees at Alpena MI was the third out of six straight record highs for that location, and smashed their previous record for the date by ten degrees.

Current Weather Highlight

We all know that the weather can put a kink in our daily plans, but could it have a larger impact on our health? French scientists say they've found a correlation between changes in weather and stroke, the third leading cause of death in the United States. During a recent study, researchers found the incidence of certain kinds of stroke increased following a temperature drop outside and when humidity and atmospheric pressure were high. Researchers cautioned that more studies need to be conducted in order to further understand this possible link.
