Men's golf can't handle Toledo on playoff hole

Penn State's men's golf team finished second at the First Energy Intercollegiate after losing to Toledo in a one-hole playoff. The two teams were forced into a playoff after both finished three rounds of golf tied with 54-hole scores of 869.

Andy Latowski tied for second with a score of 212 shooting rounds of 71-70-71. Latowski's 54-hole score is the fifth-best in school history and was his third top ten finish of the spring season.

Jim Fuller also placed in the top ten, tying for ninth place with rounds of 76-68-74 for a total of 218. Josh Dawes used three rounds of 73 to tie for 15th with a score of 219.

Penn State had a fourth golfer place in the top twenty. Mark Leon shot a score of 220 to tie for 19th.

Miami's Eric Phipps fired a five-under 211 for the tournament to claim individual honors.

The Nittany Lions will host the 26th Rutherford Intercollegiate next weekend, April 27 and 28. The event will be one of the toughest District II tournaments of the season and is held on the Blue Course.
