Ogelsby forms bond with Driscoll in tramping over Rutgers

Collegian Staff Writer

They looked like Montana to Rice, it was only Ogelsby to Driscoll, but it was more than enough for Rutgers.

Junior Luke Ogelsby starred as Joe Montana, the smooth and cool passer, and senior Will Driscoll, did his best Jerry Rice, catching every pass, as the twosome combined for nine goals and five assists in a 15-3 victory over Rutgers.

The tandem got off to a quick start when in a slight role reversal, Driscoll found Ogelsby just 12 seconds into the game for a 1-0 lead.

Ogelsby would score one more goal in the quarter and Driscoll found the back of the net for two goals in the first quarter.

The combination of Ogelsby to Driscoll started clicking in the second period, when Driscoll slammed home an Ogelsby feed for the first goal of the second quarter. Ogelsby found Driscoll two more times, once in the third quarter and once in the fourth.

"We've had a couple years together," Driscoll said. "We had a great game tonight, things fell into place. He's really good at seeing the field and looking for me and the other guys."

Coming into this game, Ogelsby had found the attacker from Fairport, N.Y., eight times for goals, with the three assists on Saturday to Driscoll, made 11 of his team-leading 24 assists on the season to Driscoll.

The deadly duet has terrorized opponents all season.

"I think I am going to cry when he graduates," Ogelsby said.

"It's so easy for me. All I have to do is throw it into him and he scores. He catches anything, it's so easy on me. I just sit behind the goal and throw it to him."

Driscoll finished with five goals on the day, bringing his season total to 44, which is nothing new for the Nittany Lions' all-time leading goal scorer.

But Ogelsby managed to score a season-high four goals to go along with his four assists.

The Bryn Mawr native looks to set up the goals more often than he shoots them, and came into the game with just five goals.

"I got open, I saw my guy with his head turned and I took advantage every time, every chance I could" Ogelsby said.

"I had some open looks, we shelled that goalie last year and this year we scored early, so I don't think he had too much confidence."

After a disappointing season, coach Glenn Thiel was all smiles after what he called the best all-around team performance of the year. He also spoke highly of the tag-team of Driscoll and Ogelsby.

"It started out right away, first groundball, bang, bang, Driscoll saw him (Ogelsby) on the right side," Thiel said. "Best game for Luke shooting wise, Driscoll is something. He could have had nine (goals). He's incredible we look for him we force it in there, we were able to get it to him. Driscoll is amazing. Far and away the best finisher and shooter we've ever had."

Driscoll has just two games left in his illustrious career, while Ogelsby will return next year for his senior season. The Lions will look to find the next Rice waiting in the wings, but as the 49ers found out, some players are irreplaceable.
