Letter to the Editor
Anti-abortion opinions are easy to understand

In reading Ms. Pestel's argument against the pro-life protesters, I know I can not agree with her argument.

The United States is a "free" country, and the Declaration of Independence states that each person has the right to "life, liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness." What the pro-life group that protested last week was trying to show, that babies in the mother's womb are also entitled to that same right, therefore making abortion an injustice.

It is important that Ms. Pestel understand that there are a significant amount of late-term abortions, and that abortions in general are a messy process, both for the woman and the child.

It is also unfair to equate legal abortion as a necessary evil. Should we legalize murder or other crimes because people will do them anyway? The number of "back-alley" abortions are not enough to warrant the legalization of the practice.

Those who do wish to have an abortion are often rushed, and Ms. Pestel is right saying that the decision to have an abortion is "impossible to take lightly." However, the pro-life protesters wanted to show the students here at Penn State that it is a decision with dangerous and damaging consequences, and that abortions (shown in their pictures) do occur.
