[ Friday, April 19, 2002 ] Letter to the Editor
Aim of a recent letter was misunderstood
It has come to my attention that some people did not understand the satirical nature of my letter published in Tuesday's Collegian. The entire thing was written in a severely satirical style to attempt and bring to light the completely absurd nature of Mr. Clauser's letter. If read through the end, one would have seen that the end of the satire clearly says "I wonder why nobody has thought of this before?" as a direct comparison to what happened in Nazi Germany. I was conveying the idea that it is people with viewpoints like Mr. Clauser who allow and promote ideas similar to the heinous crimes done to the Jewish people during that time period. I was fully aware of the correlation of my suggestion with the Nazi Germans -- that was the point. If you were unaware, the Nazis began by telling the public that people who were mentally ill or handicapped should not procreate in their society because of the amount of government money that would go to help those people, it was in essence their "patriotic and Christian duty" to do so. They first began sterilizing those with mental problems, then began just killing them. The next step was gay men because they had the ability to procreate but refused to do so. It is the reason the pink triangle is the gay symbol of pride- it was the tattoo that gay men in concentration camps we given. I'm sorry if some people misread my letter, but hope I have gotten the point that, not only do I not support ideas and attitudes displayed in Mr. Clauser's letter, but in fact severely disagree and am sickened by them.
