NEWS

Effective in 2003, fall break will no longer exist as it does now.

Two State College residents in their 20s were arraigned for their suspected involvement with the local sales of up to $150,000 worth of heroin -- some of which was bought by Penn State students, the Centre County Drug Task Force said yesterday.

More than 500 women and men came together last night to share the stories and struggles of rape and sexual assault survivors.

Centre Area Transportation Authority officials announced several proposals yesterday aimed specifically at increasing service to Penn State students and staff.

Amanda Wetzel helped bring Catholic and Protestant women in Northern Ireland into the same room last year.

The steps of Old Main were covered in blue and white yesterday, not because they are the colors of Penn State but because they are the colors of the Israeli flag.

The Undergraduate Student Government Senate passed a resolution Tuesday creating an ad hoc committee to investigate why it owes $3,300 to Document Center Services.

Traci Frye might need a new pair of sneakers after April 27.

The Student Rating of Teaching Effectiveness forms, as well as open-ended questions, that students will be responding to during the last two weeks of classes are just two of the many ways department heads evaluate an instructor's performance.

The Penn State Chapter of Habitat for Humanity is taking a step of its own with the construction of the first Penn State Habitat house in Port Matilda.

Nothing like some good old-fashioned offense to break out of a slump.

Teeing off promptly at 7 a.m. yesterday with the sun shining and the ground still wet with dew, Penn State Golf Professional Chris Cain began his attempt at greatness -- and did it.

One aspect of the game that has been forgotten for much of the year by the Penn State softball team is stealing bases.

His five-foot-11 inch, 215-pound frame is not the most impressive. He's not the fastest guy, he's not a great shooter, but Sean Droogan is in all senses of the word, a leader.

Outstanding Scholar-Athletes and campus representatives were recently honored at the Commonwealth Campus Athletic Conference awards luncheon.

ARTS

Let's face it -- for me, happiness is watching Ben Affleck on the big screen for two hours.

Neil Young has always been a sort of chameleon. Every couple of albums, Young seems to take on a new genre. He's played hard rock, folk, grunge, country and even electronic music over the course of his career.

Sample sales, Saks and Sephora. What more could a girl want? If that girl is Becky Bloomwood -- a lot. Sophie Kinsella's indulgent heroine Becky is back in Shopaholic Takes Manhattan, sequel to 2001's Confessions of a Shopaholic.

Personally speaking, live CDs are always the way to go. Take out the studio-produced sound and you're left with real music. While many pop groups are considered manufactured by the business and artificial in sound, The Corrs Live in Dublin album disproves that stereotypical theory.

Imagine a spunky orchestra picking a musical fight with a low-key rock band -- and someone recording it. The resulting hodgepodge would sound much like the new EP, by now even the trees, by Pittsburgh-based indie band, Boxstep.

There are times when you just get tired of playing the game. In The Sweetest Thing, Christine Walters (Cameron Diaz) is a player in every sense of the word. She has fun; she loves life; she doesn't need a man.
