Letter to the Editor
Rationalist theories cannot be the answer

After reading Justin Leto's letter in Tuesday's Collegian, I have seen the light.

How silly of me; in more than 4,000 years of Judeo-Christian tradition, we all simply forgot to think.

Clearly the 3.5 billion Muslims, Christians, and Jews on Earth today -- not to mention another 2 billion Hindus and Buddhists -- never stopped to try and think rationally!

Hey everybody, rationalism has all the answers!

Drop your silly Scriptures and follow me!

Thank you for showing me the light, Justin. From now on I shall try to lead my life only by rational precepts. You know, like Newton... oh wait, he was a devout Christian.

Einstein? Wait, he was a devout Jew. Darwin? Oh right, he actually dedicated his theory of Evolution to God!

Since we can now agree that the world is based on purely rational principles and religion remains only "folklore," I was just kind of wondering: What is consciousness? Why do opposite poles attract? Why does gravity exist? Why does the world exist?

I was just wondering, since Justin seems to have all the answers. Of course, it's clear that he hasn't even read the entire Bible, or he would know that according to St. Paul Christians are not to follow the Law of the Old Testament.

But we can't expect pure rationalists to study silly folklore.

Here I thought the only people who found conflict between science and religion were those who knew little about either.

Silly me.
