There are times when you just get tired of playing the game.
In The Sweetest Thing, Christine Walters (Cameron Diaz) is a player in every sense of the word. She has fun; she loves life; she doesn't need a man. Her friends Courtney (Christina Applegate) and Jane (Selma Blair) have also mastered the art of having men when they want them and then tossing them aside.
Christine's world is flipped upside down when she meets the guy of her dreams (Thom-as Jane) by accidentally spilling a beer on him in a dance club.
The movie is billed as "a romantic comedy without the sugar."
It does have its fair share of romance, comedy and vulgarity that make it a weird cross between a guy movie and a chick flick.
The Sweetest Thing is Road Trip meets Sleepless in Seattle.
However scary this combination might be, overall, I thought the movie was funny. Diaz and Applegate belong in comedies -- their timing and delivery are impeccable.
The movie was tied up into a pretty little bow in the last three minutes of the film -- it had the staple fairy tale, happy ending of any cheesy chick flick.
The film's acting was good; the directing was poor. Roger Kumble directed The Sweetest Thing, which was his second feature film. (His first film was Cruel Intentions, which he also wrote).
This film can easily be classified as a new-age date movie that includes an endearing story of friendship between three successful twenty-something women and Diaz dancing around in her underwear.
