Today's University Park forecast
sunny Winds from the south will make for another warm day in Happy Valley, with high temperatures more than 10 degrees above average. Although mild weather looks to remain well into next week, a low pressure system currently located near the Great Lakes will make for a wet weekend across the area. Clouds will increase later today, with showers and thunderstorms possible from tonight through Sunday. However, dry conditions will return on Monday as high pressure regains control of the weather, with highs climbing into the 70’s.

Current Weather Highlight

The United States could begin seeing the effects of the developing El Niņo climate phenomenon by midsummer. According to NOAA scientists, “If sea-surface temperatures continue their warming trend in the equatorial Pacific, we'll likely know the intensity by late May or June." Depending on its strength, effects of El Niņo could range from reducing the number of Atlantic hurricanes and a drier-than-normal summer monsoon season in the southwest to more nor'easters next winter.
