Letter to the Editor
Confidence, not style, is key to a personality

I am writing in response to Gretchen Gailey's column, "From PJs to bras, students need to rethink fashion."

So, Gretchen, welcome to Penn State. It is not the fashion capital of the world, and nor are you the fashion guru.

Prior to reading this column I did not realize that walking down College Avenue was like walking down a runway in Paris, but now I know. I guess what they say is true, "ignorance is bliss." No longer can I pretend that my Birks go with everything in my wardrobe, or that I will escape criticism if I wear an old pair of sweats to class.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe the people that are victims of your fashion policing might be cool? That's right, I guess it would be hard, with roots, pajama pants and flip-flops on, but maybe they have something beyond your super fashion sense, like a lack of concern for the superficial.

Take a look around -- maybe you are the one who has it all wrong. It could be that the girl sitting in front of you in class, wearing "socks with her sandals" and a belt that "is struggling to hold up her extreme derriere" has one thing that makes her look better than your fashion expertise -- confidence.
