Icers celebrate season with awards banquet

The national champion ACHA Div. I Penn State Icers held their 26th annual awards banquet on Saturday. It was one last chance to relive this season glory and bid the seniors farewell.

"There are very few things you will do in your lifetime that will equal or match the experience you have just have gone through here," Penn State athletic director Tim Curley said.

The Icers battled through adversity all year, and still became the first Penn State team to go wire to wire No. 1.

This day was not only about the team, but the world class individuals on it.

The Jerry Fry award (service) went to assistant coach Mike McNeill. The Flannel Shirt Award (being ready to work) went to forward Dustin Martin. The John Dufford ICE (Intense, Consistent, Effort) Award went to forward Greg Windsor and goalie Geoff Beauparlant. Rookie of the Year was forward Kevin Jaeger who scored a remarkable 24 goals.

The Tammy Smith Unsung Hero Award went to forwards Bobby Pate and Bill Downey. The Norm Hutchinson Players' Player Award went to co-captain Kyle Jordan. The Jon Shellington Offensive Player of the Year was Glenn Zuck. The Defensive Players of the Year were Josh Mandel and goalie Scott Graham, and the Ted Cauffman Most Valuable Player was forward Neal Price, the ACHA MVP as well.

It was one final celebration for the champs, who can now look forward to an unprecedented four straight national championship run next season.
