Driver reactions to race were very disheartening

I realize that many people lead very busy lives, but I was extremely disappointed to see drivers' reactions on Saturday during the Coaches vs. Cancer 5k run.

The initial problem was letting vehicles drive through the course where hundreds of runners had to dodge the cars while running. Would it have been that much of an inconvenience to reroute traffic for an hour or less so that the huge crowd of runners could support the vitally important cause of cancer research?

The worst scene occurred after I had finished running and was watching others come to the finish line. A large parade of vehicles was permitted to travel down Curtain Road, approaching the race's finish line. What was the logic behind permitting these vehicles to come through? As a runner approaching the finish line, you are very tired, and dealing with large buses in your way is the last thing you want to worry about. The driver of a charter bus became enraged and got out to find out what the "problem" was. I commend the students in charge who dealt with this driver and his anger. He then went back to his bus and continued yelling and throwing his arms up in frustration. I think we all need to learn to exercise more patience in our daily lives, realizing that little delays will not make a big difference in the long run. Next year I would love to see drivers cheering runners on and showing their support instead.
