'Foot soldiers' deserve harsh punishment, too

This is in regards to Mike Still's column about not giving the death penalty to Zacarias Moussaoui.

Mike has some good points. Particularly that "foot soldiers" such as Moussaoui are just insignificant drones and we need to go for "the jugular" of terrorism to get anything done. We do need to go after the big dogs, but stopping a problem as wide-spread as terrorism has to be done in steps.

I believe that we need to start small and not let any terrorists get anything but their just deserves. We can't let heartless criminals who conspire to kill innocent people get off with just a mild punishment. Even if we let just one person go with a "slap on the wrist" we are sending a message. -- that if you are a terrorist and you are caught, there is no guarantee that you will be punished swiftly and appropriately. The message we need to send, as President Bush has been saying, is that we will not tolerate terrorism. Terrorists will be punished to the fullest extent of our law, and if that means death row, then so be it.
