Africana Center to hold inaugural seminar

The Africana Research Center will host its inaugural spring symposium, titled "The City and African American Life and Culture in the Twentieth Century," from 8:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. tomorrow in 101 Chambers.

There will be three panel discussions during the symposium, on the topics of "The Great Migration and the City in the African American Imagination," "The City as the Crucible of African American Struggle" and "The Challenge of the City to African Americans in the Contemporary Context."

The panels will feature representatives from Carnegie Mellon University, Columbia University and Temple University, as well as several from Penn State.

Susan Welch, dean of the College of the Liberal Arts, will present the opening remarks. Cary Fraser, the center's director, will close the symposium.
