Not too long ago, many Penn State students spent nearly 18 hours camping out on the cold pavement outside of Eisenhower Auditorium. Their mission: to get their hands on Dave Matthews Band tickets.
Tonight the Dave Matthews Band will entertain a sold-out crowd at The Bryce Jordan Center. One of the top grossing touring musical acts of our generation, Dave Matthews Band notoriously sells out concerts across the globe.
His popularity seems unparalleled in the world of modern music, but does Dave really deserve all of the hype that he receives as an artist? Venues decided to see what Penn Staters had to say:
-- -- --
"I think he's a good singer. His music appeals to a lot of people. What he sings about a lot of people can relate to, especially young people."
-- Melissa Cox (senior-psychology)
-- -- --
"He's kind of mellow ... really good lyrics and instrumentals. He doesn't necessarily deserve all the hype, at least not so much with his new stuff."
-- Lindsay McGann (sophomore-economics and international business)
-- -- --
"Definitely. I've been going to his concerts since high school."
-- Julia Leibee (sophomore-political science)
-- -- --
"Sure he deserves the hype; he is an artist. Personally, I don't like his type of music, it's just yodeling."
-- Danny Zambrano (freshman-division of undergraduate studies)
-- -- --
"I'm going to the concert this weekend. It's just good music."
-- Erick Brotherton (junior-biobehavioral health)
-- -- --
"I used to like his music. I think he deserves the attention because he's a good artist, but their sound has become overproduced compared to the older stuff which was more organic."
-- Scott Gustas (sophomore-psychology)
-- -- --
"I am not going to the concert. I like their music, but my little brother is obsessed with the Dave Matthews Band, so I am sick of hearing about them."
-- Brooke Scheremeta (senior-biology)
-- -- --
"He came out with a new style. He has a nice eclectic grouping of instruments that mesh together well."
-- Steve Lewis (freshman-division of undergraduate studies)
-- -- --
"I like his music, but I don't like Dave Matthews as a person. It annoys me how everybody makes him out to be so amazing."
-- Keath Kobasa (sophomore-division of undergraduate studies)
-- -- --
"Most performers just perform, and he is in tune with what a wide variety of people like."
-- Ethan Imhoff (graduate-rural sociology)
