The Penn State women's outdoor track team starts the spring season today and tomorrow with the Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State University.
The Raleigh Relays is a huge invitational meet with close to 60 teams present, Penn State head coach Beth Alford-Sullivan said. This weekend's meet is a nonscored competition that emphasizes individual performances over team rankings, as there are no team scores.
"I'm personally very excited," Alford-Sullivan said. "Our potential for the season is very strong."
She said she will be keeping her eyes on several of the team's reigning All-Americans such as sophomore Brianne Johnson in the javelin, and junior Deshaya Williams in the discus, and the performance of newer faces such as freshman Connie Moore in the 100 and 200-meter runs.
"It's a nice start-up competition," Alford-Sullivan said. "It'll be great for team building this weekend and the season as well."
