Many students can't go home for any holiday
I'd like to respond to Karen Thyng's letter about not being able to share Easter dinner with her relatives. While I do not wish that anybody should be apart from his or her family on holidays, I think that Ms. Thyng needs to put her situation in perspective. While the majority of this campus may be Christian, there are a large number of students who never get to spend any of their religious holidays with their families. In fact, many students constantly balance religious life with school life, having to miss classes to merely celebrate their holidays at all, which do not conveniently fall on weekends. The university, however, has a policy that professors will excuse students from class for religious reasons. Ms. Thyng, if you feels strongly about having Easter dinner with your family and consequently must miss classes on Monday, you have the option of working it out with your professors like every other student.
