University's new budget needs student input
I, like many other Penn State students, am very concerned about the tuition increase. I am an out-of-state student and this increase will hurt us a lot. I would like to know why tuition has to go up. No one has given a legitimate answer to why it has to go up so much. What is the money being used for? Everytime someone speaks, they say tuition is going up to ensure quality at Penn State. Exactly what does that mean? No one tells us where the money goes, yet we are asked to pay. And then it goes to things that really do not suit our needs. A couple of weeks ago, there was an article in The Daily Collegian about parking. They said that they would have to move parking halfway across campus from Lot 80 because there was construction going on. When asked why not build another deck, the reponse was that moving the spaces was more cost-effective. Then I read about the construction on Pollock Road. Funny, no one asked us if we wanted a fountain, yet we have to pay for it. I bet most of us would like parking instead of a fountain. All I am asking is that the university review its spending policies. If not, then we should have a defining voice in how and on what out money is spent on. Vielka Wilkinson
