Coroner’s report shows student died of MDMA

Stephanie Yau, the 23-year-old Penn State graduate student who died Nov. 4, died as a result of MDMA toxicity, according to a coroner's report released yesterday. Although it was ruled an accident, the report found that her death was the result of the substance commonly known as Ecstasy.

Yau was taken to the hospital at 9 a.m. on the morning of Nov. 4 when she was suffering from respiratory distress and was later transported by helicopter to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville before she was pronounced dead later that evening.

Although police say that a suspect has been identified in regards to providing Yau with the popular party drug, the investigation into her death is continuing.

Anyone with information regarding her death is asked to contact the Centre County Drug Task Force at 1-877-898-3782.
