Penn State students looking for a place where they can enjoy a fast, hot meal have a new option -- Quizno's, 124 E. Beaver Ave.
Quizno's specializes in baked subs, said Andrew Quesenberry, a new store developer for the chain.
"Toasted subs are better than regular subs," Quesenberry said.
The restaurant also serves soups, salads and desserts, he said.
"Everybody loves our food -- it's not that expensive, and it's a better product," Quesenberry added.
Though all subs are baked, the preparation of the food doesn't take long, he said. "Everybody's in and out in two minutes," Quesenberry said. "It's good food fast, not fast food."
The restaurant will offer an "informal family atmosphere," restaurant manager Kim Lilly said.
The restaurant will offer several promotions to students during the coming week, and also will feature a television to enhance the "comfortable, casual atmosphere," Quesenberry said.
Quesenberry also said he plans to distribute coupons on campus. Lilly hopes this promotion will be a success. "We're hoping that the line will be around the block," she added.
Though new to State College, Quizno's is an international chain with more than 1,600 restaurants, Quesenberry said. The closest location to State College is Pittsburgh, where there are about 10 restaurants.
Quesenberry is unsure of when the exact opening of Quizno's will be, but he hopes it will open today, he said. The store will definitely be open by Monday, Quesenberry said.
Some students are excited about this new addition to State College.
"It's great that State College will now have a greater variety of restaurants," said Abi Reid (freshman-division of undergraduate studies).
William Mitchell (senior-civil engineering) is also excited to have a new, non-fast food option. The lower cost of the restaurant will be convenient for students, as food cost is a concern to most students, Mitchell said.
"A wider variety of food choices makes for a better atmosphere in a college town. Personally, I can't take any more fried food," he added.
