WEATHER
[ Wednesday, March 27, 2002 ]

Today's University Park forecast
mixed precip After a very soggy Tuesday, much drier weather and some sunshine will settle in today, compliments of a large area of high pressure in the Mississippi Valley. This trend will continue until Friday when a weak area of low pressure slides in from the Great Lakes causing clouds and scattered rain or snow showers. Expect clearing skies by Saturday in the wake of the low and below normal temperatures on a northwesterly wind.

On This Date In... 1950

Compare a mainly snowless winter in State College to March 27th, 1950 in the Black Hills of South Dakota. A huge snowstorm produced more snow than Happy Valley normally receives in an entire winter season! The three day blizzard in the High Plains Region dumped 34 inches of snow in only 24 hours at Dumont, SD and a whopping 50 inches for the entire event!

Current Weather Highlight

Got bugs? As warmer weather creeps into Happy Valley this spring, you may notice unwanted guests entering your home. As the humidity increases outside, the moisture level of the air inside increases as well. The cool and moist conditions provide the perfect environment for fleas, cockroaches, dust mites, and termites.
On the bright side there are ways to keep these critters away, by monitoring indoor moisture levels through air conditioners, heaters and dehumidifiers. These air-modifiers work to pull moisture from the air.
