'Rogue nations' are only in eye of the beholder
I am writing in response to David Livingston's letter promoting the production and use of low-yield nuclear weapons. I just have a few questions for Mr. Livingston and other jingoistic, Americentric citizens. First, we supposedly need these new nukes to use against "rogue" nations, as Mr. Livingston and Bush tell us. What is a rogue nation? One that doesn't like us? One that pursues policies we don't approve of? Were we a rogue nation when we attempted genocide on the Native American population? Were we a rogue nation when we stole land from Mexico, raping and killing its citizens along the way? How about when we enslaved Africans, or when we refused to give them rights for over 100 years post-slavery, or now when we still support institutional racism? Mr. Livingston goes on to say we need low-grade nukes to protect us and Israel against these rogue nations, since they are "bent on the total destruction of Israel and the West." How do we know they are bent on our destruction? And if they are bent on our destruction shouldn't we ask why? Don't you think citizens of Iraq also think we are bent on their destruction, and are they any less right? Furthermore, are you Jewish? Then why does Israel matter so much to you and Bush? I'm Jewish and I still don't think we should blindly support Israel and rage against all the other middle-eastern nations (I'm sorry, "rogue nations"). Mr. Livingston says, "we have been provoked" because these nations will attack Israel. I fail to understand that logic, how are "we" provoked if these nations have a problem with Israel? Oh yeah, they provide us with strategic army bases, so we like them. Mr. Livingston ends his Bush butt-kissing by saying Bush may be the only one who understands the world's nuclear situation. That's a lot of faith to have in a man who couldn't even get into college until his daddy donated money to the Ivy League elitist institution. Phil Schwadel
