USG debate

Brightly colored campaign T-shirts speckled a half-filled 101 Thomas Building last night as students listened to the Undergraduate Student Government executive candidate debate.

In the years to come, Penn State could have an academic minor in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender studies and benefits available to the partners of LGBT faculty and staff.

Sex may be considered a taboo topic in today's society, but the truly unspeakable subject is racism, columnist Leonard Pitts Jr. told an audience of Penn State faculty, staff and students.

Returning to a football field near you: the Penn State team that actually had a bit of a swagger and even intimidated other teams.

At least, that's the way Joe Paterno would have it.

As the regular season ends, the time has come for the top teams in the Big Ten to fight for the right to take home the championship title. Six teams will compete at the University of Minnesota's Sports Pavilion in Minneapolis, Minn on March 22-23 in the Big Ten Championships.

Unlike most college juniors who get a letter or two from home or friends and may make their own web page, junior Kevin Donohue, a member of the No. 1 Penn State men's gymnastics team, has recently started to receive fan mail.

In October, with its season in front of them, the Penn State fencing team had only one goal in mind.

"We want to win, we want to get the championship back," captain Stephanie Eim said at the time.

The referee was about ready to throw in the towel. The 10-run RBI Baseball slaughter rule was almost in effect. But after being down 9 scores, a furious second half rally by No. 18 Johns Hopkins made No. 12 Penn State and its fans sweat out a 13-9 victory at Holuba Hall on Wednesday night.

The No. 12 Penn State women's lacrosse team controlled the ball for much of the first half in Penn State's 13-9 victory last night at Holuba Hall.

ARTS

The Indigo Girls have returned to what they do best -- acoustic guitars and soaring harmonies.

Never one to be afraid of corporate America, Michael Moore uses his new book Stupid White Men . . . and Other Sorry Excuses for the State of the Nation (Regan Books) to tear apart everything he feels is wrong with the current state of the American government.

The Grateful Dead and Bob Dylan, two acts born out of the 1960s with a musical shelf life that never seems to expire, have shared songs almost regularly since their respective inceptions.

Unfortunately, the extra five dollars I had in my pocket couldn't save this movie from a bad review.

The catch phrase for the film with the same name starring Robert De Niro and Eddie Murphy lives up to its title.

Just because a movie has lots of bangs, blood and babes doesn't mean that it is good. The latest in this cycle-of-suck is Resident Evil, another film written by video game producers.
