Letter to the Editor
Expanded grad benefits do not benefit others

After reading "Expanded health care 'the right thing to do'" on Monday, I became convinced that the author has either: a) never paid for his/her own college tuition, or b)did not attend Penn State as an undergraduate and experience the astronomical annual tuition increases.

The author feels that "it's about time" that families and spouses of graduate assistants and graduate fellows will be covered by Penn State's health care plan.

Correct me if I am wrong, but don't graduate assistants and graduate fellows already go to school at a greatly reduced tuition cost? Graduate assistants are merely training themselves (at the cost of their own time and my tuition increase) for better jobs later in life.

As an undergraduate, I am also training myself for a better career later down the road. Does that entitle me to a free education and health care for myself and my family? Didn't think you'd think so. I'm glad that the author of that article feels that he or she got what they deserve even if it does mean that I have to kill myself to cover the tuition increase that is paying for your -- and your family's -- health care.
