It's Showtime.
The catch phrase for the film with the same name starring Robert De Niro and Eddie Murphy lives up to its title.
Then again, any movie which pairs De Niro and Murphy couldn't be that bad.
Showtime tells the story of tough LAPD detective, Mitch Preston (De Niro), who takes his job a little too seriously during a drug bust and shoots a television news reporter's camera. As punishment for his harsh actions Mitch is forced to star in his own reality TV cop show. Eddie Murphy plays Trey Sellars, a cop who dreams of becoming a movie star. The two are paired up by the show's producer, Chase Renzi (Rene Russo).
DeNiro is great, of course, and in the past few years with films like Meet the Parents and Analyze This, he has proven that he can be a comedic actor.
Murphy also put forth a solid performance and the camaraderie and spirit between the two actors really worked on screen.
The film, directed by Tom Dey, who made his directorial debut last year with Shanghai Noon, has come under some criticism for being a knock off of the Lethal Weapon films.
I thought Showtime was worth seeing, with great performances by De Niro, Murphy and Russo, a solid story, a bit of action and some good laughs.
