Borough council's rule should not be applied
My fraternity has plans to undergo a renovation/addition of our house within the next three years that could bring upwards of $600,000 into the community. Because this "Historic District" ordinance was passed, those plans, and that money, may not happen; at the very least, they could be delayed greatly while we wait for an architect to give us our "certificate of appropriateness." This ordinance is exactly what State College doesn't need. It hinders the growth of downtown student housing, which stops money from coming into the community. Besides which, the public in general is vehemently opposed to this, as far up to the mayor. I can't understand how the council voted to pass this in light of that opposition. I sincerely hope that this ordinance doesn't pass. I think all those who are affected by this (and many fraternities are) should attend the next meeting and voice their displeasure. Leonard Greco
