Letter to the Editor
Terrorism and pot links only exploit paranoia

The idiocy of the "drugs support terrorism" propaganda is quite appropriate, considering it debuted amidst Super Bowl commercials with pseudo floozy/anti-Christ Britney Spears hocking Penn State's favorite cola.

Isn't it just as reasonable to say that the "guerilla terrorists" exist because of the government's war on harmless drugs like marijuana? If certain drugs were legal, wouldn't these Columbian and South Americans be put out of business? Last time I checked, moonshine sales declined rapidly after Prohibition ended. Illegal marijuana would likely do the same. Rather, people vilify a plant whose side effects are alternate bouts of laughing, eating and sleeping. Erik Swankoski states that marijuana is "certainly more harmful than alcohol." Though I'm also a fan of tipping back the sauce every once in a while, I've never read a headline in the Collegian like "Herb-Fueled Riot Erupts on Beaver Avenue!" It's absurd, just like the war on drugs.

Shame on you for exploiting people's heightened paranoia about terrorism to further a cause that has wasted billions of dollars and sent countless peaceful people to jail.

Blame marijuana for it's real evil, like the unnerving popularity of Pink Floyd and Phish.
