Election battle kicks off
Candidates for student government offices outlined their ideas.

Let the games begin.

Ten days, seven tickets and one goal: to become president and vice president of Penn State's student government.

Ballot positions were drawn Friday for Undergraduate Student Government, Association of Residence Hall Students and University Park Allocation Committee elections to take place Wed., March 27.

Fourteen candidates are running for USG's top executive positions:

Ed Brown (junior-political science) and Chris Boris (junior-meteorology)

Legitimate campus news channel

Maintain a stable and productive Greek presence on campus

Add study days

Improve security on campus

Mike Gallo (junior-political science) and Chris Miller (sophomore-mechanical engineering and economics)

Endorse senate's Tuition Challenge Grant proposal, a program that limits tuition increases to 4.5 percent

Work with Center Area Transportation Authority to increase service to Vairo Boulevard and Aaron Drive

Improve dormitory Internet service

Pursue student options for downtown parking

Erik Ives (junior-political science) and Matt Brezina (junior-electrical engineering)

Extend CATA services later on weekend nights and to more areas

Form a multicultural roundtable

Music festival during Arts Festival

Keep fall break

Rubina Javeri (junior-finance and international business) and Kris Ankarlo (senior-journalism)

Online waiting list for filled classes

Expand eatery hours

Online services at Ritenour

Form a union of off-campus students

Jonathon Koltash (junior-finance and economics) and Jeremy Montgomery (junior-criminal justice and business administration)

Focus on university spending

Accountability for administration and USG

Concentrate on fiscal responsibility

Continue programs started by the Zartman administration

Dave Somerman (sophomore-pre-medicine) and Brandon Goldwater (sophomore-biology)

No tuition increases without justification

No code of conduct

Better health care

Unlimited CATA access

Makini Young (senior-operations and information systems management) and Dan Heist (junior-speech communication)

Encourge multiculturalism

Advance community service efforts of students

Objectively inform students on USG issues

Uphold ethical behavior within the student government
