Penn State sophomore Kelly Mazzante was named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association/Kodak All-District 6 team. Mazzante is now eligible to be selected to the 2001 Div. I Kodak Women's All-America Basketball Team which will be announced in San Antonio, the site of the 2002 Women's Final Four.
Mazzante, a unanimous first-team All-Big Ten selection, is the nation's leading scorer at 25 points per game and will enter the 2002 NCAA Tournament 56 points away from the conference's single-season scoring record of 855 points. That record is held by Northwestern's Anucha Browne, which was set in 1984-1985.
Mazzante has broken 12 Penn State single-season and career records in addition to a number of Big Ten scoring marks. The sophomore guard has led the Big Ten in scoring in each of her first two seasons, the first player to accomplish that feat.
Other players on the District 6 squad were Kelly Komara of Purdue, Tamara Moore and Jessie Stomski of Wisconsin, Minnesota's Lindsay Whalen and Shereka Wright of Purdue.
