I attended Penn State for five years, only two of which had a fall break. We did not have an extended Thanksgiving break or any such thing.
From Labor Day weekend until Thanksgiving, there were zero days off. We survived. And so will you. The fall break idea came from students wanting a break to use to study. And yes, not many students actually studied during the break, but that was the main arguing point. Having it over Thanksgiving would help a lot more since it is just before finals. You can use part of the break for the intent, and still have a nice long weekend. Plus, this would make more sense since students would be able to go home, instead of having two short breaks.
