Highlight
While Florida still receives the most lightning strikes
in U.S., it can no longer lay claim to being the
Lightning Capital of the World. NASA scientists, using a
new global map with data from satellite sensors to show
strikes over a given area, found that central Rwanda in
Africa has more than twice the amount of strikes than
Florida. This is due to lightning occurring year-round in
Africa.
