Letter to the Editor
Women not the cause of 'modern dilemmas'

Now that "political correctness" is so politically incorrect, Brian Blase's column declares any argument contrary to his own as some kind of popularist, mindless, over-sensitivity.

Well, I have news for Brian. If he wants more agreeable response letters, he shouldn't make such broad-brushed attacks on not only the feminist movement, but any woman who has the apparently rogue notion of wanting both a family and a decent career (an option readily available to any man, incidentally).

The most basic statistics will teach that correlation does not equal causality. Mass amounts of women getting jobs wasn't the only social phenomenon to occur between 1979 and 1989, and thus shouldn't automatically be denigrated as the cause of the collapse of cultural integrity. Fathers not sticking around for their pregnant girlfriends is most likely contributing to our modern dilemma as well, a fact overlooked in Blase's column as much as Blase says his facts are in mainstream media.

Additionally, the harsh reality is that, in these modern times, most families need two sources of income. Blase would probably rather have the kids work than the mother.

Well, since Blase apparently has such concern for the plight of children, I think he would make a fabulous house husband. That way, his children will have a father figure and his wife can be free to earn the bread. If he doesn't like that, let's pretend "tradition" and social norm demand it, and see if he likes it when the tables are turned.
