'Monologues' promotes idea of women victims

This is to clarify the Independent Women's Club's (affiliate of the Independent Women's Forum) opposition to The Vagina Monologues.

Valentine's Day is a holiday meant to celebrate romantic love. The Vagina Monologues, which try to co-opt Valentine's Day by celebrating genitalia as opposed to love, are the epitome of the misguided sexual/romantic leadership permeating campuses today. Instead of advocating love and intimacy, current leaders, particularly feminists, encourage raunchy, loveless sex. I blame feminists and their shock-jock events for the current "dating" scene on campus in which dating is out and "hooking up" is in. This isn't healthy or desirable to most - most of all not to women.

Second, The Vagina Monologues promote female victimology by lacing the performances with inaccurate statistics about rape and describing, in graphic detail, women who were raped. How does this prevent rape? This is not a practical solution and is nothing more than feminists doing what they do best: basking in the notion that they are victims.

Finally, The Vagina Monologues entire premise is anti-man. The plays are "monologues," which is code word for "masturbation." Sexuality involves two people. To have a healthy, successful sexual relationship, one must have a "dialogue."

It is unfortunate that Cupid, dating and love have become so politically incorrect. Wouldn't you prefer to have courtship return to Penn State? Does anyone really enjoy the drunken "hook-up" scene? We don't either, which is why the Independent Women's Club is encouraging students at Penn State to "Take Back the Date!"
