Reviewer ignored music during Weezer show
Weezer might as well have been standing onstage with their hands in their pants while their recorded music played over the public-address system, if you go by Colleen Sullivan's review of the show. I read about what songs were played and the various levels of crowd excitement. I saw a tidbit about their "nerdy image" and an opinion on Weezer's ideal venue. I got an obnoxiously detailed account of the light show they put on and of the "mood" they created. But Ms. Sullivan neglected to include a single word about the quality or characteristics of the actual sonic demonstration that the four musicians put forth. To the best of my understanding, the very fundamental reason popular-music concerts are staged is so that listeners of the recorded songs can witness the re-creation of those very songs in-person, live. A concert review should reflect that, above all else. I feel sorry that those not in attendance had to settle for a review that had no relevance to Weezer's actual musical performance. Ms. Sullivan stated in her review that the concert "focused in on the music." Why couldn't she? Matt Sweeney
