NEWS

A hundred days since the disappearance of Penn State student Cindy Song, the Ferguson Township Police Department is employing the help of the Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Investigative Assessment Unit to assist in the investigation of the missing 21-year-old.

The seventh suspect in a group of 12 was arraigned yesterday on drug charges that link him to a ring accused of distributing Ecstasy and cocaine in State College and through the Penn State fraternity system.

Students can whet their multicultural appetites this week with a Lunar New Year celebration, an international coffeehouse, a Muslim fair or an evening of Thai foods and presentations.

Some Penn State graduate students hope that the recent success of students at New York University will act as a catalyst for their own unionization process.

Three men were arraigned yesterday on multiple assault charges stemming from a fight at the Minit Mart, 106 N. Atherton St., in early November, according to the State College Police Department.

A busload of about 40 students departed at 1 a.m. today to promote the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon on CBS's The Early Show

Students who chain their bikes to trees while shopping downtown or eating in a restaurant might find a friendly note from State College Borough informing them that such an action is illegal.

Residents of Inglis, Fl. will not be running with the devil any time soon thanks to a recent proclamation banning the presence of Satan from the quaint Southern town.

Former secretary of the navy and journalist James Webb will speak on "Reflections on Asia, U.S. National Security, and The Literary Life" at noon today at the Nittany Lion Inn.

The annual Ms. Black Penn State Pageant will begin at 6 p.m. tomorrow in Schwab Auditorium.

The Black Graduate Student Association will present "The 2002 Achievement Conference: Building Relationships for Future Success" from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Nittany Lion Inn.

Pulses quickened as time ran out in Indiana last night.

It hasn't been the kind of season that Tommy Amaker hoped he would have in his debut at Michigan.

It is the kind of weekend schedule only teams in the Big Ten can truly appreciate. Michigan and Iowa, No.3 and No.2, back to back.

The Ohio Bobcats' den, Bird Arena, is a little like a haunted house.

Though the Penn State men's volleyball team won't be taking on two top-ranked teams this weekend, the games remain just as critical if the Nittany Lions want to host the EIVA championships in April.

My opinion: Chris Korman

It's been 15 months since New Hampshire gymnast Katie Baldwin passed away. But time hasn't made the pain any less for her friends and teammates.

The Penn State Lady Icers are beginning to reach their pinnacle of success on the ice, but they still have to bring their lunch boxes to work each day.

The Penn State ACHA Div. II Ice Lions will attempt to double their three-game win streak this weekend by playing three games in three days.

With a week off from their normal competition schedule, five of the No. 3 Penn State men's gymnastics team members will get a chance to compete against many of the top gymnasts in the country for a spot on the U.S. National Team.

Penn State women's soccer players Joanna Lohman and Emily Oleksiuk have been voted to be first team Verizon Academic All-America by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

In a vote by ECAC lacrosse coaches, Penn State senior Will Driscoll was named to the 2002 Preseason All-ECAC team. The coaches also picked the Nittany Lions to finish fourth in the 2002 ECAC Preseason Coaches Poll.

The character of a team can often be determined by how it reacts when things don't go as they should.

ARTS

Three performances of Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues will be performed starting Thursday in 100 Thomas Building.

Voices of venues asks

Tomorrow night, Linkin Park crawls into the sold-out Bryce Jordan Center, bringing with them an auditory arsenal of opening acts: Adema, DJ Z-Trip and "highly" entertaining special guest Cypress Hill.

Students who won't be done rockin' after the Linkin Park show tomorrow night will have a chance to get their fill. Late Night Penn State will present Local H with guests Shades Apart tomorrow night in HUB Alumni Hall.

On Tuesday, Weezer will be bringing their personal and raucous rock style to The Bryce Jordan Center.

For it being so close to show time, Pat Wilson was extremely cool. Wilson, Weezer's drummer, called my dorm room from backstage in an arena in Charlotte, NC.

With three albums and an EP released in the past five years, a hit single, and a growing fan base, their upcoming tour with Weezer isn't the only amazing experience for Saves the Day, a group of five guys under 23 who some are calling the leaders of the "emo revolution."

Love and relationships are this weekend's No Refund Theatre themes. Beginning at 8 tonight and tomorrow in 111 Forum, Ancient History, Hands, the Prologue, Extemporaneous Balcony Play and The Red Coat will be featured for the public.

Seeger and opening act Judy Cook will perform at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Lemont's Center For Well-Being, 123 Mt. Nittany Rd., as part of the Acoustic Brew Coffeehouse concert series.

Drawing a younger and much gigglier audience this weekend, The Center for the Performing Arts brings Theaterworks' Reading Rainbow the Musical 2 p.m. Sunday to Eisenhower Auditorium.

The Quintet is one of Penn State's newest student-formed bands. Made up of five musically active freshmen, the group has recently begun sharing its free jazz sound with eager audiences at several gigs in town.

Students who won't be done rockin' after the Linkin Park show tomorrow night will have a chance to get their fill. Late Night Penn State will present Local H with guests Shades Apart tomorrow night in HUB Alumni Hall.

The Nittany Valley Symphony will present a concert featuring Johann Strauss's Tales from the Vienna Woods and Gustav Mahler's Song of the Earth at 8 p.m. tomorrow in Eisenhower Auditorium.

Released in 2000, Saving Grace is a hilarious British comedy that takes the concept of "high" brow comedy to a whole new level.

Often, when a girl suffers from a heartbreak, she pops in a sappy lovelorn pop CD and listens to the melancholy tunes of artists like Jewel. Guys usually do not have this luxury as few musicians out there consider the emotional aches of the male species.

"Sones de la Calle: Latina/o Popular Culture and Politics," a two-day series of events featuring poetry and performance will begin on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Zoller Gallery at the Palmer Museum of Art with Una Noche Bohemia.

My opinion: Gretchen E. Gailey
