Third time's the charm for gymnast Donohue

For the third-consecutive week, Penn State junior gymnast Kevin Donohue (Saddle River, N.J.) was named the Big Ten's Gymnast of the Week. He shares the honor this week with Minnesota's Clay Strother.

Donohue earned a career-high score in the all-around for the third-straight week after posting a 54.200 in the Nittany Lions' upset victory over No. 2 Illinois. He also recorded a career-high 9.400 on the pommel horse to tie for the win, while establishing season-high marks on the vault (9.200) and parallel bars (8.700) for second and third place, respectively.

Donohue was also awarded the Gene Wettstone Award at the conclusion of Saturday's meet, presented to the most outstanding gymnast of the competition.

Currently, Donohue is the No. 1 all-arounder in the country and ranks second on floor and high bar, while appearing in the top 20 on three other events. He has earned a No. 1 ranking on at least one apparatus the last three weeks.

The No. 3 Nittany Lions take a break from collegiate competition. Qualified gymnasts will participate in the Winter Cup, which is sponsored by USA Gymnastics, on Feb. 8-9 in Las Vegas, Nev.

Penn State (10-0) returns home on Sat., Feb. 16 for a meet against Temple at 7 p.m.
