Football fans that enjoy watching the big game with a beer in hand need to plan ahead for their Super Bowl celebration. Most local beer distributors close at about 7 p.m. on Saturday, and six pack shops will make their final sales at about 2 a.m. Sunday morning.
Fortunately for the party animals, if you don't have time to hit up the stores before Sunday, there are several alternatives. No, not alternative beverages, alternative places to enjoy the game.
Champs Sports Bar and Grille, 1611 N. Atherton St., is expecting a crowd for the game. "I would expect to be busy. We have quite a few reservations for the weekend," said manager Paul Dixon.
Champs will be featuring Coors Light pitchers, and will be having a huge wings and ribs buffet. Visitors can also enjoy Champs wings and ribs at home Sunday by ordering one of their Super Bowl party platters.
Sports Café, 244 W. College Ave., will also be celebrating by featuring the game on all the big screen televisions, wings specials, $2 Michelob Amber Bocks, and 23oz. Yuengling for $2.
The Ramada Inn, 1450 S. Atherton St., is hosting a party where people can watch the game with radio station WBHV-FM (103.1). The Ramada will be hosting its third annual Super Bowl party, beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the atrium.
The game will be projected onto an over-sized screen, accompanied by Beaver 103's "best seat in the house" winner, a large buffet with wings, chili, sausage and baked potato bar, and, of course, drink specials.
The party is open to the public and admission is free. Entrance will be on first come first served basis.
"We are expecting around 300 people," said Jennifer Brooks-Stahl, sales director for the Ramada Inn.
"The student population is welcome," she said.
Tom Yourchack, vice president and general manager of Forever Broadcasting, was very excited about the event.
"The Ramada is a fabulous place to watch the game," he said.
For about a week and a half, Beaver 103 has been running their annual "best seat in the house contest," Yourchack said. "When (a listener) hears Bucky Beaver score a touchdown, they have to be the ninth caller to qualify to win."
The winner will receive a recliner from Wolf Furniture Co., valued at $800, and will also be given the Ramada Inn's V.I.P. suite to enjoy the game with five friends.
"The contest is going very well, we have about 40 people registered," Yourchak said.
The winner will be drawn at 4:30 p.m. when the party begins. Beaver 103 will be broadcasting live from the party as well.
"Last year it was a good mix of both students and other members of the community. I am looking forward to it," he said.
