Feminists' equality fight ignores draft, date bill
This is in response to all the feminist letters lately. Don't get me wrong; I support the rights for which women are fighting. The main concern I have with the women's rights movement is it selective choice of equal right. If you truly want equality, in order to earn my respect, you must want complete equality, not just equality you benefit from. There are some little things that women will probably never fight for. For example, if I ask a woman to dinner, assuming she can get beyond the fact that I am short, ugly and boring to accept the offer, and I don't pay the bill in full, there is not a snowball's chance I will get a second date. Is this equality? If a Titanic is sinking, how many women out there would complain when the call for "women and children first" came along? My guess is not too many. The big thing that most concerns me is civil service. Woman have fought and gained the right to join the armed force and even attend all male military academies. However, to my knowledge there has not been a women's right rally fighting for the right to be drafted into the military. This may be an oversight, but involuntary military service is something they should be fighting for even though there is more downside than up. Fight for rights like this and you will fully earn my respect. And would it kill you to pay for dinner? Michael Nichols
